Understand well the payment at the tollgates to avoid congestions

At the period of the summer holidays departures, the road traffic is compact and the cars are often queueing at the tollbooths on the motorways. When you approach a tollgate, there is still room for doubt concerning the choice of the wrong lane !

Roadsigns placed above the lanes allow you to make the right choice. They are easily spotted from a distance, thanks to their various shapes and colors. Moreover they are luminous to be visible by day or by night.

Here is the list of the roadsigns for the payment at the tollgates. A better knowledge of these different devices for payment can help you to choose quicker the lane and so let the traffic flow freely at this obligatory step.

 

Open lane All means of payment are taken (coins, banknotes, credit cards, cheques).

 

Closed lane

 

Payment in cash or by credit card to a pay attendant in booth All means of payment are taken (coins, banknotes, credit cards, cheques).

 

Payment with an automated machine Lane reserved for a payment by credit card.

 

Payment with a cash machine Lane reserved for a payment in cash with coins or notes (change is given back).

 

Télépéage (electronic toll system) Lane reserved for drivers (vehicles of class 1, 2, 5) having subscribed to the electronic toll service which allows the traffic to move freely at the tollbooths by detection of a bleeper. The Télépéage device enable the usual or occasional drivers on motorways to avoid queueing mainly during the summer holidays.

 

Télépéage at 30 km/h Lane reserved for drivers having subscribed to the electronic toll service which allows to pass through the tollbooths without stop thanks to the detection of a bleeper by sensors placed before (speed limit 30 km/h).

 

Télépéage for heavy vehicles Lane reserved for lorries or coaches of class 3 or 4 (vehicles above 3,5 t).
